ICYMI: Willock adds to Newcastle woes

Newcastle secured an impressive 4-1 victory at home to Chelsea but Eddie Howe delivered negative injury updates on midfield duo Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff.

Willock had been in contention to start the match due to Sandro Tonali's long-term suspension and Longstaff once again missing out through injury.

The former Arsenal midfielder's absence meant Lewis Miley, 17, once again started while Bruno Guimaraes returned after serving a suspension in the Bournemouth defeat prior to the international break.

"It's a recurrence of his Achilles' injury," Howe said of Willock's absence. "It's a massive blow. We don't know how long he'll be out for. We will seek specialist advice."

Howe also said that Longstaff "probably will not be fit" for the crucial midweek Champions League game at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Newcastle boss did say that Jamaal Lascelles did not suffer a first half injury but rather had an issue with his boot, while Emil Krafth was unavailable due to illness, rather than injury.

ICYMI: Liverpool to assess Alisson and Jota injuries

Liverpool will assess the injuries that Alisson and Diogo Jota sustained during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City yesterday, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

Jota, 26, was substituted during the game at the Etihad with an injury issue. Alisson, 31, also went down later in the game holding his left leg but was able to finish.

Klopp said on the pair: “Ali (Alisson) felt something and Diogo (Jota) felt something. We have to assess them. We have to see.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold's 80th-minute equaliser cancelled out Erling Haaland's 27th-minute opener, his 50th Premier League goal, as the two sides shared the points in Manchester.

Liverpool are next in action against LASK in the Europa League on Thursday.
